A red flag law, a waiting period for gun purchases, licensing requirements, and numerous other gun controls did not prevent the July 4, 2022, Highland Park attack.

Mike Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety lists Illinois as the state with the sixth most stringent gun laws in the country.

Moreover, Gabby Giffords gun control group gives Illinois a grade of A- on gun control.

Illinois has a red flag law, a waiting period for gun purchases, gun owner licensing, domestic violence gun laws, “open carry regulations,” and numerous other gun controls.

The gun owner licensing is done via Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) cards. Only those with a FOID card can legally buy and possess a gun in Illinois and the process for acquiring a FOID card includes a background check.

The Illinois State Police listed the process for buying a gun in Illinois:

• Buyer must possess a valid FOID card.
• Buyer must verify local firearm ordinance requirements.
• Buyer must display valid FOID card to FFL prior to handling firearm.
• Buyer must complete Federal Form ATF 4473.
• FFL notifies the Illinois State Police (ISP), Firearms Services Bureau to perform
a background check in accordance with state and federal laws.
• FFL receives an “Approval” from ISP to transfer the firearm.
• Buyer must abide by the State of Illinois waiting period before taking possession
of the firearm. The waiting period for a long gun is 24 hours and 72 hours for a
hand gun.
• Upon taking possession of the firearm, the firearm must be unloaded and
enclosed in a case to transport.

Cook County has an “assault weapons” ban that also bans “high-capacity” magazines. In neighboring Lake County, the City of Highland Park has an “assault weapons” ban that also bans “large-capacity” magazines.

On December 7, 2015, the Chicago Tribune reported that the Supreme Court of the United States refused to hear a challenge against Highland Park’s “assault weapons” ban. The Tribune described SCOTUS’s refusal to hear the challenge as “a blow to the National Rifle Association and other pro-gun advocates.”

Radical House Democrats introduced a bill on Tuesday that would enshrine “gender identity” into discrimination law and prohibit religious objections.

The bill, named the “Transgender Bill of Rights” would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to outlaw discrimination on the basis of “gender identity” in public accommodations and federally funded programs and activities. The legislation is led by Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) David Cicilline (D-RI), Marie Newman (D-IL), Mark Takano (D-CA) and Ritchie Torres (D-NY) .

The bill “explicitly clarif[ies] that it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of…gender identity or sex characteristics in public accommodations and services on religious grounds…” The legislation is out of touch with the views of the majority of Americans, 60 percent of whom believe sex is determined by biology, recent polling shows.

The bill also takes aim at Republican state laws that protect women and girls’ spaces. The bill would force states to allow males who believe they are females to play women and girls’ sports. The bill would also force schools to allow students to use “facilities that best align with their gender identity.” This element to the bill makes no mention of males’ biological advantages in sports, or the potential for males dressed as females to assault women and girls in bathrooms, locker rooms etc. Giving transgender people access to women and girls’ spaces and sports teams is also largely unpopular with voters, with 63 percent opposed, according to a new NPR/Ipsos poll.

Additionally, the bill would ban “conversion therapy” — a leftist label for any kind of therapy that rejects the idea that people can choose their own sex. The new definition of “conversion therapy” is notably devoid of its historical context, which sometimes involved brutal and even illegal treatments perpetrated against same-sex attracted people.

At the same time, the bill would eliminate any government restrictions on access to “gender-affirming” medical care for adults and minors. “Gender-affirming” healthcare is a far-left euphemism intended to make mutilation sound like a compassionate course of action. This type of care involves the administration of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, of which many long-term side effects are unknown, as well as sex change surgeries. Some surgeries include the creation of breasts, cutting off breasts, and surgery on the genitals or reproductive organs, including building penises from the tissue of another body part. 

The bill would prohibit states from punishing healthcare providers that provide sex change treatments to “transgender and nonbinary people,” like Alabama’s law, which makes it a felony to conduct gender transition surgeries or provide puberty blockers and other hormone treatments to children under the age of 19.

Not to miss an opportunity, the legislation seeks to codify Roe v. Wade, “guaranteeing the right to abortion” for “everyone, including transgender and nonbinary people.” While many voters seem to be confused about what the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe means for abortion nationwide, more voters favor allowing states to decide abortion law or a federal ban, rather than national law allowing abortions.

The legislation additionally proposes that “gender identification” requirements be eliminated from government documents. If elimination is not possible, it suggest an  “X” marker be provided on those documents.

The bill is strikingly similar, though equally or more radical, to the Equality Act, which passed the House in February of 2021. However, the “Transgender Bill of Rights” has far less Democrat support than the Equality Act, with 85 co-sponsors compared to 224.

One of the co-creators of the TV show Friends, perhaps the most monumentally successful worldwide global smash hit production ever, has apologised for the characters being white and pledged to give millions of dollars to black education.

Marta Kauffman told the LA Times that she finds it “painful” that all the main characters on the show were not ‘diverse’ enough for modern standards and that “Admitting and accepting guilt is not easy.”

The writer continued, “What makes this truly emotional for me is that I want this connection I didn’t have. I deeply, deeply want this connection with the black community that I didn’t have. Because of ‘Friends,’ I never attained that.”

“I’m embarrassed that I didn’t know better 25 years ago,” Kauffman continued, adding that the death of George Floyd in 2020 prompted her to realise that she had “internalized systemic racism,” and “participated” in it, and that she “needed to course-correct.”

Now, to correct her white guilt, Kauffman says she will give $4 million to fund an endowed chair in Brandeis University’s African and African American studies department.

Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman has apologised for the lack of black actors in her sitcom.

“I’m finally, literally putting my money where my mouth is,” Kauffman said, adding “I feel I was finally able to make some difference in the conversation.”

“I’ve been working really hard to become an ally, an anti-racist. And this seemed to me to be a way that I could participate in the conversation from a white woman’s perspective,” she added.

Kauffman has also promised to correct her whitey problem in future productions.

“I have to say, after agreeing to this and when I stopped sweating, it didn’t unburden me, but it lifted me up. But until in my next production, I can do it right, it isn’t over,” she said, adding “I want to make sure from now on in every production I do that I am conscious in hiring people of color and actively pursuing young writers of color. I want to know I will act differently from now on. And then I will feel unburdened.”

Kauffman’s co-creator on Friends, Kevin Bright, was also recently asked about a lack of diversity on the show to which he replied “I would have been insane not to hire those six actors. What can I say? I wish Lisa [Kudrow] was black?” 

In a Hollywood Reporter interview, Bright explained “For the parts of Chandler and Phoebe, we saw everybody and we picked what we thought with the two best actors. There are different priorities today and so much has changed.”
